When piecing together your trip to Rio you may be able to save money with a package deal, particularly if you are going during New Year's or Carnival... Above and beyond the standard package that some websites or travel agents offer, there are a large number of companies that put together special packages for Rio (again, this is especially true of New Year's or Carnival).
 
Some things to consider when buying  package:

What's included? Most packages include:

  • Airfare to Rio De Janeiro. Are the dates and times convenient? What if you want to stay longer?
  • Hotel in Rio De Janeiro. What quality hotel? Where is it located? What if you decide to stay longer?

The best packages also include:

  • Carnival Gala Ball tickets.
  • Samba Parade tickets at the Sambodromo for Carnival. These tickets can be hard to get (particularly if you're buying late), so a Rio Carnival tour package might be a great option.
  • Transportation to/from the airport.
  • Tickets to other events like football (soccer) matches. If you're a football fan, you should not miss the Maracană--one of the largest (and most fun) football stadiums in the world!
  • Tickets and transportation to Corcovado, Sugarloaf, and the other sights.
