| Flying to Rio is not inexpensive, particularly during the high season (winter) and especially around New Year's and Carnival--when flights to Rio are in VERY high demand. When searching for flights, keep in mind that Brazil is HUGE and Rio De Janeiro is actually EAST of the eastern seaboard of the US. | ||
Rio has two airports, though nearly all international flights fly into the Internacional (airport code: GIG), and some flights (Continental Airlines flights from Houston, for example) will stop in São Paulo first. While this is a minor inconvenience, São Paulo is very close to Rio by plane and you won't have to change planes there. To find less expensive tickets, try to fly midweek and buy your tickets at least 21 days in advance. If you are heading to Rio for Carnival or New Year's, you should plan to buy plane tickets and make hotel reservations many months in advance. We found some reasonably priced airline tickets using Expedia, Travelocity, Hotwire, and Orbitz. |
