Miami has a number of beautiful hotels downtown and on South Beach--hotels that can fit a variety of budgets. Hotels downtown are generally priced according to amenities while those on South Beach are more sensitive to location, style, or other intangibles. Because Miami is a popular destination we strongly recommend booking in advance.

There are many sites that offer discount packages that the hotels may not offer directly. Shop around online to find the best deal. We have also reviewed a few premium hotels.

Here are some of our favorites:
For a less expensive option nearby, we recommend the Surfcomber Doubletree hotel. Well located on Collins and 17th, the Surfcomber is less expensive and less trendy yet just as well located as other area hotels. The hotel pool is nice and the fairly low design of the hotel means that the pool keeps the sun longer than those of fancier hotels in the area.

The rooms were satisfactory, typical of a Doubletree.

We're not embarrassed to admit that we also loved the warm chocolate chip cookies that we were given at check-in. Yum.

The National Hotel is more expensive than the Surfcomber but nicer. The pool is magnificent and also well located on Collins Ave. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but the service is outstanding. The National prides itself on having world-class conference facilities and an impressive first-class Wine Club to host special events.
