Just a bit south and west of Kihei, Wailea is more residential (less walkable than Kihei), though the beaches are just as beautiful (and probably even less crowded). While there are plenty of bed and breakfasts in this area as well, Wailea is probably best known for it's amazing resorts.

Wailea Resort Hotels

Our favorite is the Maui Prince Hotel (808.874.1111). The Maui Prince boasts that every room in the resort has an ocean view. While we haven't personally verified that, the grounds are gorgeous. White sand beaches, 36 hole golf course, and tennis courts are sprinkled alongside the Asian meditation gardens (complete with waterfalls). Of course the staff is as helpful and courteous as you'd expect from a wonderful resort.

While there are some slightly less expensive options in Wailea, don't look for budget options here. The few budget locations that we've found in Wailea have been unpleasant at best. If you're trying to stretch your dollars, there are plenty of places to stay in Maui in other neighborhoods.

Wailea tends to be more upscale than Kihei--we strongly recommend that you shop around online for the best deals. Different websites will offer different prices for the SAME rooms on the same dates. Some sites that specialize in Hawaiian travel packages come up with prices that even the hotels themselves cannot beat. Spend some time looking for hotel discounts online...
