| Maui is quite different than Oahu in that it's really a collection of small towns as opposed to a large city concentrated around a single beach. When deciding on a hotel, motel, or bed and breakfast in Maui, therefore, the first objective is to select a town. | |

Lahaina: Lahaina is a cute town on the west side of Maui. The big attraction here is Front Street--a very cute area along the coast that has a plethora of shops and restaurants (most famously, the very first Cheeseburger in Paradise is in the middle of Front Street in Lahaina). Kaanapali: Slightly north of Lahaina, Kaanapali offers more upscale resorts and private beaches. Kihei: A quiet town rich on the south side of Maui, Kihei's modesty and abundance of beaches speaks to us. Appropriately, it's full of bed and breakfast establishments. Wailea: Wilea is just south of Kihei and more upscale with upscale resort hotels. If you are looking for resorts, check out Wilea and Makena (below). Makena: Maybe the nicest of the the towns listed here, Makena is home to a small number of nice hotels and resorts. Another option is to stay in a hawaiian timeshare!
