Kaanapali is Lahaina's upscale neighbor to the north. There are many more hotels in Kaanapali and therefore the competition is a bit more fierce. Search around for deals online, particularly Hawaii-focused travel sites, which always seem to come up with some great deals.

The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa in Kaanapali (808.661.1234) is simply beautiful and perfect for families as well as couples seeking a romantic getaway. Whether you're spending time on a hammock, on the resorts 55-foot catamaran, or hanging out in the astronomy center, you're sure to have a great time. Of course, these amenities don't come cheap, but this resort delivers.

For more reasonable rates, we've enjoyed the Aston at Papakea Resort (808.669.4848). The grounds are spectacularly maintained (there are two 18 hole putting courses on site) and the two pools provided plenty of quiet relaxation.
