The Hawaiian islands are located in between the west coast of the United States and Japan. The natives tell us that the airports fly more than 3,000 people into and out of the small Maui airport alone (and the Oahu airport is much larger). FYI, the airport code for Oahu is HNL (Honolulu) and the airport code for Maui is OGG (at least that's the primary one).
Here is our advice for getting discount airfares to Hawaii:
  • Avoid major travel times, such as the week between Christmas and New Years
  • Fly mid-week and buy tickets at least a month in advance
  • Look for package deals with hotels--major hotel chains and travel websites often offer discount airfare as part of a Hawaii vacation package
  • If you plan to island hop (visit multiple Hawaiian islands, try to book a "circle trip" with the same airline)
  • Check for discount airfares to Hawaii online--while some of the best deals are found on major travel sites, we found a great deal on a site that specialized on Hawaii vacation packages
